First Australians Capital’s (FAC) mission is to help Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander entrepreneurs bring tens of thousands of years of social, cultural and environmental enterprise experience to the modern marketplace. Our vision is for our communities to be completely economically independent and driving a new economy that aligns with our social, cultural and environmental values.
We do this by raising seed funding from Philanthropists that we can lend as patient capital to enterprises. We then work intensively with the enterprises to help them execute their enterprises. This intensive support includes business planning, accounting, marketing and legal support.

Project Summary:Funds will be provided to Black Duck Foods to pilot the growth of native foods at scale.
Black Duck Foods is a social enterprise that has been established to grow native grains and yams at commercial scale. This will provide employment opportunities for local Aboriginal people from the Yuin nation. First Australians Capital will be supporting Black Duck Foods with capacity building enterprise support including business strategy, marketing, accounting and fundraising support but seed funds are needed to employ a manager within Black Duck Foods.
Project Outcomes:The funds will be directly used to pay the wages of a farm manager for Black Duck Foods for a 12 month period. A farm manager can then work with the FAC team to plan and execute the business plan to grow the native foods, market them and then create ongoing employment opportunities for other local Yuin community members.
Success will be measured by the amount of food grown, the amount of food sold and the employment opportunities that are created as a result.
