Scholarship Fund

CWS-2.JPG
The Scholarship Fund is a public fund that provides educational scholarships, prizes and bursaries. It is endorsed with Item 1 Deductible Gift Recipient (DGR) status. Donations to this fund are tax deductible.

Sub-fund can be established in the scholarship. In addition a scholarship can be granted using funds from the Australian Communities Foundation tax deductible fund and passing it through the Scholarship Fund.

The aim of the Scholarship Fund is to promote education by rewarding achievement in education and therefore encouraging achievement and greater effort in education. This is done by providing either monetary assistance or equipment.

Scholarships can be awarded as just one of the charitable activities undertaken through Australian Communities Foundation.

Australian Communities Foundation's experienced staff work with donors to set up scholarships. This includes developing criteria, guidelines and processes.

To provide a tax deductible scholarship the following Australian Taxation Office criteria must be met:

  • recipients must be Australian citizens or permanent residents of Australia
  • the scholarship, bursary or prize must be open to at least an entire state or territory of Australia or to a region of at least 200,000 people
  • the scholarship, bursary or prize must promote the recipient’s education in either or both of the following: a pre-school, primary, secondary or tertiary course, an overseas educational institution, by way of study of a component of a pre-school, primary, secondary or tertiary course
  • the scholarship, bursary or prize is awarded on merit or for reasons of equity.
