With inter-generational transfer of significant wealth being a major and growing issue for many client families, we are finding more and more discussions with clients touching on giving back something to society. The taxation benefits of making sizable donations, as part of a comprehensive financial planning process, can be quite pronounced when timed with significant life events such as retirement or upon the sale of major assets or businesses. Through either a Prescribed Private Fund (PPF) or a family fund within MCF, we are also seeing many clients appreciating the concept of giving in a perpetual structure to promote such an ethos in the following generations.
We have found MCF to be an organisation providing a cost effective option in this area for a number of clients without the immediate critical fund size or inclination to manage a PPF. MCF has a very inclusive attitude to its donor families and gives an added benefit through its active communication and educational type services.
Tim James , Director, UBS Wealth Management.
Over the years I’ve seen too many people with good intentions fall by the wayside, because they believe they can’t afford to establish and maintain their own charitable trust. I refer people to MCF to establish a sub-fund, because they can achieve their philanthropic objectives relatively cheaply and easily and can be as involved as they wish in the grantmaking activity of their sub-fund.
MCF provides ongoing advice to sub-funds, keeping them abreast with changing regulations and obligations.
Philanthropists, especially those who live in the country, can be isolated and out of date otherwise. MCF’s correspondence and meetings keep them informed and inspired.
My clients appreciate that MCF board members are volunteers and MCF is a lean organisation, so that the charitable funds contributed are not eroded by administrative costs.
Mary Stewart, Lawyer in Shepparton Victoria, Law Institute of Victoria, Accredited Specialist in Wills & Estates
What differentiates MCF from other providers and from going it alone with a PAF is MCF’s grantmaking experience and expertise and its support in helping donors become effective philanthropists.
